Old Fairground
Formerly known as the Belgrade Fairgrounds, or Old Fairground, the site was built in 1938 and
consisted of 5 completed pavilions and a sixth one that was started but never finished due to the
outbreak of World War II. During the war, it was converted into a Jewish concentration camp, and
after the war, the premises were handed over to visual artists who established their artistic studios
here.
On the Sava riverbank near the camp, a monumental bronze monument, 22 meters high,
was erected, created by sculptor Miodrag Popović, as a memorial to the victims of the Sajmište
camp.
