Endowment of Miodrag Kostić - Palace of Science
Located at the intersection of Kralja Milana and Knez Milos streets, the building of the former Adriatic-Danube Bank has been attracting attention for a hundred years with its magnificent dome, elegant facade and impressive sculptures from Greek mythology that adorn its interior and exterior.
The building was created according to the project of the German architect August Reinfels, in the harmonious and measured style of Central European academicism. The building serves as the headquarters of the Adriatic-Danube Bank, the largest bank in the territory of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
The urban planning project for the reconstruction, rehabilitation, adaptation and repurposing of the building of the Adriatic-Danube Bank included the restoration and conservation of parts of the building that, according to the classification, received the status of cultural property.
The building of the Palace of Science went through intensive renovation works of the facade and reconstruction of the interior in order to become a home for modern science and technology, and to be able to offer visitors a unique experience, in a completely revived environment of this pearl of Belgrade architecture.
The cultural-historical and artistic value of the building, which is more than a century old, was preserved in cooperation with the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Belgrade, whose expert team supervised the restoration and conservation works.
