CASTLE GOLUBOVEC

Golubovec Castle was built around the year 1800 and belongs to the Late Baroque period. It is situated in a magnificent park divided into three stylistic-landscape sections: a decorative park to the north of the castle, a forest park, and the Fairy Meadows. The castle is currently state-owned, and it is undergoing restoration as part of a major project to establish a scientific, educational, and recreational center within the castle.

The project is funded by the EU Solidarity Fund due to damage of the castle during the 2020 earthquake. The completion of the restoration and the opening of the center are planned for 2025.

Within the Golubovec Castle, seven masonry heaters have been documented, dating from the late 18th and early 19th century — a time when such objects served not only as functional heating elements but also as important decorative and status symbols. The heaters of that era were modeled after late Baroque and early Neoclassical designs, featuring pronounced architectural structures, rich ornamentation, and motifs taken from nature and mythology.

The technology used for reconstructing 18th- century heaters involves analysis, mold-making, firing replicas, rebuilding the interior, and joining them with the original components — all in accordance with strict conservation principles. Our company is performing the full reconstruction of these stoves. The work includes detailed damage assessments, typology and degree of degradation analyses, structural evaluations, and stability testing of the masonry structure inside each stove. Following this, the reconstruction of each individual stove is undertaken, including cleaning and conservation of materials, reconstruction of missing parts, assembly, and final finishing.
