Kastel Fortress
Kastel Fortress is the oldest historical monument in Banja Luka, after which the area of the city where it is located was named. According to archaeological findings, it dates back to the Roman period, believed to have been built by the Romans in the 2nd century. After the arrival of the Slavs, it was destroyed, and a Slavic settlement of a town type emerged in its place, until the Middle Ages when the role of Kastel was taken over by a fortified town. Banja Luka became the center of the Bosnian Sanjak after the arrival of the Turks in the 16th century when Kastel Fortress became an important military and administrative center. Its final appearance was achieved in the early decades of the 18th century when it was renovated, expanded, and acquired the shape of an elongated trapezoid.
This extensive restoration project included the general revitalization and renovation of Kastel Fortress in Banja Luka, with a focus on several key points:
- Restoration of Tower 1 and Tower 2: We carefully restored Towers 1 and 2 to preserve their original character, with segments adapted for modern use.
- Renovation of the Ramparts between Tower 1 and Bastion 1: We restored the rampart structures to regain their strength and visual appeal.
- Renovation of Segment 6 of the Southern Rampart: We focused on renovating this part of the Southern Rampart to restore its former glory.
