Monastery of Treskavec
The Orthodox Monastery of Treskavec, representing monumental sacral heritage predominantly in the Byzantine architectural style, is located above Prilep beneath the Zlatovrhom hill and dates back to between the 13th and 14th centuries. This monastery complex includes a church dedicated to the Holy Mother of God, a monastery residence, and a dining hall.
Emperor Stefan Dušan became the founder of this monastery after his victory over Byzantium in 1334, and during his patronage, the monastery was the wealthiest. Before him, King Milutin took care of this monastery, as mentioned in an inscription above the western gate of the monastery, alongside Byzantine Emperor Michael IX Palaiologos. The frescoes adorning the Monastery of Treskavec stand out for their different styles, and this diverse fusion of frescoes on the walls of the church, the chapel, the former facade, and the vault bear witness to the rich heritage of Byzantine painting, encompassing styles from traditional iconographic works to Renaissance influences.
As part of this serious conservation and restoration project, our team of experts carried out comprehensive conservation and restoration of the monastery.
