Museum of Contemporary Art (MSU)

The building of the Museum of Contemporary Art was constructed between 1962 and 1965 based on the competition design by Ivan Antić and Ivanka Raspopović. It represents one of the most significant achievements of post-war Yugoslav architecture, with an interesting solution of “spatial plan” in the interior, characterized by the interweaving of different levels. The museum and its surrounding park house an invaluable collection of artworks by Yugoslav, Serbian, and foreign artists from 1990 to the present, including renowned names such as Marina Abramović, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Yves Klein, Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, and many others. The external walls of the museum are covered with marble panels and glass, while the sloping roof surfaces are entirely covered with glass. The building’s form consists of six cut two-story cubes, recognizable from a distance, and its unique architecture and prominent position allow it to be seen from the Belgrade Fortress, the new Sava Bridge, and the river.

The building of the Museum was declared a immovable cultural monument in 1987.
