Patriarchal Palace
The Patriarchal Palace is located at Trg Branka Radičevića No. 6, in Sremski Karlovci, and was built between 1892 and 1895 in the style of academic historicism with elements of Tuscan Renaissance and Baroque, according to the project of Belgrade architect Vladimir Nikolić. This magnificent building is one of the finest examples of episcopal palaces and still serves as the seat of the Bishop of Srem, with the status of the summer residence of the Serbian Patriarch. The decoration of the chapel was completed in 1896 and is the work of the painter Uroš Predić, including thrones, stained glass windows, wall paintings, iconostasis, and frescoes of the chapel.
It is considered one of the symbols of Sremski Karlovci, and in 1951, it was placed under state protection and declared an immovable cultural monument of exceptional importance.
As part of the renovation works on this building, the northern, southern, and western facades of the Patriarchal Palace were completely repaired and restored, and the roof structure was renovated.
