Gornjogradska Gymnasium
The Gornjograd High School building is one of the few preserved buildings of the 17th century in Zagreb. It was founded as the first high school institution in Croatia (1607), which has maintained the continuity of its purpose to this day. Today's high school building was built through several stages of renovation and extension from 1645 to 1872.
The ceremonial hall was originally intended for theatrical performances by students, later (1894) it was repurposed for holding physical and health education classes.
The Gornjograd High School building was damaged in the earthquakes on March 22 and December 29, 2020. The damage after the first earthquake was considerable, while after the second it was somewhat smaller, but also required immediate intervention.
The subject of the main project is a complete renovation with an emphasis on constructive rehabilitation of the mechanical resistance and stability of the structure of the building.
An integral part of the works are works on the conservation and restoration of the ceiling decoration in the sports hall, as well as restoration works on the facades of the building and on parts of the interior, such as the stone frames of vertical chimneys, stone staircases and forged steel fences, and the restoration of clay furnaces.
