Caričin Grad

The archaeological site Caričin grad is located in the south of Serbia, in the municipality of Lebane, in the town of Prekopčelica. It represents a late antique (early Byzantine) city from the 6th century, which was declared an immovable cultural asset of exceptional importance for the Republic of Serbia. Since the discovery of this site in 1912, archaeological research and conservation work, with interruptions, have continued until today.

In order to prepare a nomination for the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List, works on the restoration of early Byzantine thermal baths have begun at the archaeological site of Caričin grad. Also, in the wider area of this locality, the dams on the Caričinska and Zlatska rivers were cleaned.
